Leora Zimmerman
Leora L. Zimmerman, 78, of Fall Creek, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024, while under going heart bypass surgery at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Leora, daughter of Elgart and Lydia (Sell) Knuth was born November 15, 1945. She was raised with her 4 siblings in Ludington Township, attended Pine View Country School and graduated from Fall Creek High School.
On the 4th of July in 1964, Leora was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Dale Zimmerman. The couple lived most of their married life in Ludington where they raised their 4 children. Dale passed away on July 7, 2022, after celebrating 58 wonderful years of marriage just 3 days earlier.
After Dale passed away Leora moved to her apartment at Wunder Haven in Fall Creek in February of 2023. She enjoyed living at the apartment where she could easily walk to church. Leora was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek. She had served as a Sunday school teacher, faithfully attended bible studies, sewed quilts with the World Relief Program, worked with Little Lambs Daycare and had served as church janitor.

If you knew Leora you knew how much she enjoyed sewing. She not only sewed for her own family but for the community as well. With her sister Deloris Tumm, they privately contracted with JC Penney and Sears to go into the client’s home to measure, sew and hang custom drapery. The two of them also did upholstering until the hand work became too difficult to continue. She did all this while also tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and canning her produce. For many years she also looked forward to serving on the Ludington Township Election Board. When relaxing at night you could often find her with a crocheting or knitting project in her lap.
Her immediate and extended family was always an important part of her life and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them.
She enjoyed the years her children were active with Country Cousins 4-H Club and proudly supported their endeavors. She loved the role as “Grandma” and was extremely devoted to her grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to baby sit whenever called upon.

Leora will be dearly missed by her children, Jeff (Kathy) Zimmerman of Fall Creek, Michael (Tina) Zimmerman of Milwaukee, Sherri (Todd) Oppelt of Neenah, and Tara (Daniel) Tjerstad of Ettrick; grandchildren: Sean (Nicole) Zimmerman, Kristin Flynn, Mark (Kim) Zimmerman, Jason (Kayla) Zimmerman, Mikayla Zimmerman, Andrew (Cassy) Oppelt, Nichol (Nelson) Araya-Espinoza, Ian Zimmerman, and Trevor, Tucker, Daisy and Trenton Tjerstad; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Erna Knuth of Fall Creek, Vern Hazen of Rock Falls, Lenard (Sandy) Zimmerman of Janesville, Duane (Lois) Zimmerman of Thorp, Lester and Luther Zimmerman of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Dale, Leora was preceded in death by her parents, Elgart and Lydia Knuth; brother Kenneth Knuth; sisters, Deloris (Arvid) Tumm, Ruth Hazen and Vera (Don) Baker; and father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Lillian Zimmerman .

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, with Pastor Brendan Harris officiating.
