Gerald Alan Halvorson, 72, son of Myron and Alice (Hanson) Halvorson, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, December 13, 2025. He passed away at home in Eau Claire, surrounded by his loved ones and in the care of Heartland Hospice.
Gerald was born on May 14, 1953. He spent his childhood and formative years in Augusta, where he attended Augusta Elementary School and High School.
Following his education, Gerald dedicated 45 years of his life to working as a long-distance semi-truck driver. Over the course of his career, he logged countless miles across the country before retiring from driving in 2021. Wanting to stay active after retirement, he worked for several additional years as a groundskeeper at Eau Claire Academy, a position he truly loved.
In his free time, Gerald enjoyed reading, especially western novels. He also loved playing computer games and was a devoted dog lover who cherished the companionship of his four pugs, Milo, Mac, Mika and Maggie, whom he raised and cared for at home.
For the past 25 years, Gerald shared his life and home in Eau Claire with his longtime companion, Margaret “Maggie” Woodford.
Gerald will be dearly missed by Maggie; his son, Chris (Amy) Halvorson of Eau Claire; daughters, Jenny Halvorson (Kevin Pettis) of Fall Creek and Dawn Tomlinson of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, with one additional great-grandchild expected in 2026; siblings, Jean Gilbert of Hayward, Mary Aiken of Eau Claire, Micheal Halvorson and David (Mitzi) Halvorson all of Augusta, Sharon (Robert) Miller of Grand Junction, Colorado, and John Halvorson of Waupaca; and their families.
He is further survived by Maggie’s children, Kathy Proud of Eau Claire; Kelly (Jeff) Simonson of Chippewa Falls; and Maggie’s siblings, Rhonda Alfaro of Eau Claire; Rick (Diana) Woodford of Cornell; and Donna (Dave) Smith of Eau Claire, along with Maggie’s 2 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Alice Halvorson; and his brother Gregory Halvorson.
In accordance with Gerald’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
