Robert Luther
Robert Allen Luther “Bob”, 74, of rural Augusta, formerly of Eau Claire, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday morning, December 9, 2025.
Bob was raised with his five siblings, the early years in Durand and surrounding area before moving to Chippewa Falls, where he graduated from high school. Following high school he attended Chippewa Valley Technical College in the culinary program. Although he never pursued a culinary career, Bob became a self-taught auto mechanic, a trade in which he took great pride.
Over the years, Bob worked as an auto mechanic at multiple area shops as well as owning and operating Westside Auto Centre on Third Street in Eau Claire.
While attending Chippewa Valley Technical College, Bob met Shirley Neibauer. The couple was united in marriage on November 28, 1971, and spent all of their married life in Eau Claire, where they raised their three sons.
Bob had a deep and lifelong interest in automobiles, especially classic and antique cars. He enjoyed spending time working on older vehicles, rebuilding and restoring several over the years with the help of his sons.
The vehicle Bob cherished most was his 1939 Ford Businessmen’s Coupe, which he proudly showed at numerous car shows. He not only enjoyed displaying his own cars, but also admired and appreciated the craftsmanship of others. Bob attended many of these shows alongside his wife, Shirley. Beyond cars, he was an avid collector of a wide variety of items, a passion proven by the many totes filled with his collections. In his younger years, Bob also enjoyed hunting trips with the boys at his father’s cabin up north, making memories that were dear to him. He had also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
.Bob is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of Augusta; two sons, Chris Luther of Eau Claire and Cory (Sammi) Luther of Holmen; four grandchildren, Christopher Luther, Casey Luther, Cheyanne Luther, Dakota (Hannah) Luther; and one great-granddaughter, Cali Mae Luther. He is also survived by two brothers, Leon (Sue) Luther of Chippewa Falls, Adrian (Melisa) Luther of Eau Claire; and one sister, Amy (Scott) Meinen of Chippewa Falls.
He was preceded in death by his father Bob in 2011; mother, Betty in 2020; son Craig in 2006; brother Donald; and sister, Linda Backus.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, at noon at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery in Eau Claire. Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
