He was a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Taxidermy Association and served on their board of directors. He was recipient of many awards for both his taxidermy work and lily exhibits. Harold also served several years on the Fairchild Credit Union Board and was a member of the Fairchild Rod and Gun Club, where he had served as board treasurer. For many years he was also a member of the National Wildlife Federation.
Harold was a member of the United Methodist Church of Augusta, where he had served as a trustee. With several members of the church, Harold was instrumental in the formation of the Red Ties and sang with them from the formation in 1989, until they disbanded in 2010.
