Dorothy Alice Mayer, 68, of 426 E. Main Street, Fairchild, WI, passed away Friday evening at her home in the loving care of her family and Mayo Clinic Heath System Hospice.
Dorothy Alice Mayer, daughter of Henry and Esther (Wolfgang) Zillmer was born February 12, 1944 in Augusta. She was baptized on March 5, 1944 at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Albert Zillmer and Lucille McNair as sponsors. She was confirmed on June 8, 1958 also at Grace Lutheran Church. Dorothy attended school in Augusta and graduated from Augusta High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to John Mayer on April 18, 1964 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview, rural Fairchild. The couple lived all their married life in Fairchild. Throughout the years Dorothy was employed as a prep cook, waitress and bartender. She had been employed for Richard Pettis at the Nu-Café in Augusta, at Walker’s Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Fairchild, for Alma and Laverne Kaufman in Fairchild, for Brenda and Randy Hulett at the Oasis in Osseo, at Whit’s End and Blooms Country Inn in Price. She retired in February of 2009. When her family was young she spent a lot of time sewing and canning for them. Dorothy loved carnations but also enjoyed working in her flower gardens and raising mums. Over the years she enjoyed camping, riding snowmobiles and ATV’s. She loved going to dances and was especially fond of polkas.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by John, her husband of 47 years; 5 children, Tamara Mayer (Steven Casper) of Merrillan, Polly and Dan Barney of Fairchild, Brad and Stephani Mayer of Rice Lake, Lynn Mayer of Fairchild, John Mayer Jr. ( Rachel Fox) of Fairchild; 11 grandchildren, Vanessa Walker, Jessie, Vince and Katelynn Barney, Desa, Sara, and Ami Mayer, Samantha Fox, Mercedes and Reese Wilkinson and Hunter Mayer; brother, Dave (Carol) Zillmer of Silver Lake, WI; 2 sisters, Betty (Tom) Larson of Eau Claire, Jane (Larry) Whiteaker of Mukwonago, WI; brother-in-law, Roger Hagen of Osseo; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Esther, step-father, Fulton Sumpter and sister, Barbara Hagen.
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
