Joan D. Meyer, 80, of rural Fairchild, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 10, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire.
Joan Delores Meyer was born in Eau Claire on Feb. 10, 1932, the daughter of John and Helen (Schultz) Matysik. She was raised in Eau Claire, where she was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith, attended parochial grade school and graduated from Regis High School. She was united in marriage to Gordon Meyer on April 23, 1951 in Eau Claire. The couple farmed outside of Fairchild and in addition to being a farm wife and raising her family, she had worked at the Sunset Nursing Home in Fairchild for 35 years. Over the years Joan had enjoyed her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, working cross stitch and participating in water aerobics and line dancing. She especially loved spending time with her family and traveling with them throughout the United States.
Joan will be deeply missed by her daughters, Marlene (Leo) Bunderson of Fall Creek, Kathy (James) Ralidak of Rush City, MN; sons, John (Diana) Meyer of Pine City, MN, Charles Meyer of Osseo; brother, Donald (Maryann) Matysik of Fairchild; 7 grandchildren, Kimberly Bunderson, LeAnne Yule, Katie Lilligren, Phillip, Matthew, Miranda and Adrianne Meyer; 4 great grandchildren, Abby Meyer, Cristofer, Brekka and Evan Lilligren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon on June 29, 1992, son, Marvin on Nov. 1, 1986, and grandson, Brian Meyer on Oct. 11, 2001.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Ricky Bertels officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Fairchild Cemetery.
