Josephine A. O’Brien, 80, of Grace Woodlands Assisted Living in Eau Claire, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2012, at Grace Woodlands in the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice. Â
Josephine Alice O’Brien, daughter of Emil and Margaret (Kersten) Henning, was born July 25, 1931. She was raised in Ludington Township, Eau Claire County, and attended Oak Ridge Country School on Highway 27. She graduated from the Augusta High School on May 26, 1949. She was united in marriage to Vernon “Budâ€? O’Brien on Oct. 14, 1950, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington. The couple lived for a time in Altoona, before purchasing their farm in Ludington Township. Josie had been employed at Hobbs Supply in Eau Claire. Josie was a life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school. She loved going to thrift sales and finding clocks to add to her collection. Vernon and Josie both loved old time and country music. Bud played the guitar, and together they attended many dances and they also enjoyed having house parties with family and friends. Vernon passed away on Dec. 18, 1996, and Josie continued to live in their home until March of 2010, when she entered Grace Edgewood Assisted Living in Altoona. In December of 2011, she moved to Grace Woodlands in Eau Claire. Â
Josie is survived by her two adopted children, Roger O’Brien of Eau Claire, and Susan (Roger) Lawrence of Fall Creek; grandson, Billy Oldenburg of Eau Claire; 4 sisters, Florence Korn of Altoona, Elmira “Mikeâ€? (Vernon) Aiken, Anna (Robert) Thomas all of Fall Creek, Alice (Tony) Monpas of Eau Claire; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Franklin “Butchâ€? Henning. Â
Memorial services will be held Wed. July 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington, with Pastor Cal Seigel officiating. Burial will be in the Ludington Annex Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church at E19675 State Road 27, Fall Creek, WI 54742. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Â
