Ethel G. Pelzek, 88, of Fairchild, Wisconsin, passed away at home in her sleep on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
Ethel Geneva Pelzek, daughter of George and Jessie (Hartson) Sackett was born Oct. 15, 1924, in rural Neillsville, Clark County. She was raised with her 8 siblings in rural Neillsville, where she attended Wild Wood Country School. Before her marriage she worked for a family in Black River Falls, helping with house chores and tending to the children.
She was united in marriage to Edward Jerome Pelzek on Jan. 26, 1944 in Neillsville. After their marriage Ed and Ethel farmed and raised their family just outside of Fairchild until 1972, when they built their current home and moved into the Village of Fairchild. For 23 years Ethel had worked as a nurse’s aid at the Sunset Nursing Home in Fairchild, under the ownership of Thelma Wright and then Henry Thode. She also worked for Mr. Thode at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona. Due to health conditions, Ethel retired in 1984. Ethel’s family enjoyed her excellent cooking and baking, her beautiful flower gardens and receiving many afghans that she crocheted over the years. In later years she enjoyed her time at the casino, and always loved spending time with her family, especially when they stopped in for coffee, something sweet to eat and conversation.
Ethel will be deeply missed by Ed, her husband of nearly 69 years, 2 daughters, Judy Lynd of Altoona, Linda Darling of Fairchild; 2 sons, Jerry (Connie) Pelzek of Eau Claire, Rodney (Brenda) Pelzek of Fairchild; 7 grandchildren, Scott (Lauri) Bruder, Clifford (Audra) Bruder, Jerome (Roberta) Pelzek, Kim (Matt) Slowiak, Amanda (Jordon) Johnson, Ryan Darling, Rodney Pelzek, 12 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Shirley Sackett of Augusta.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by 9 siblings, Mary Ellen in infancy, Pearl Sackett, Nora Spencer, Eva Krueger, Ruth Ida, Lloyd, Harold, Frank and Charles Sackett, son-in-law, C.L. Lynd, and great granddaughter, Madeline Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan, 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
