Josephine H. Schmidt, 92, of Fairchild, passed away Wednesday morning, June 20, 2012, at the Oakridge Nursing Home in Osseo, where she had been a resident since suffering a stroke.
Josephine H. Schmidt, was born Dec. 4, 1919, in East Bloomfield, WI, one of six children born to Robert and Bertha (Kempt) Schmidt.
She was united in marriage to Marlin G. Schmidt on May 6, 1939, in Freemont, WI. The couple moved to Fairchild in 1941, where they owned and operated the Southside Cheese Factory for 25 years. Josephine also owned and operated Jo’s Cheese in Fairchild, where she sold cheese for many years.. After Marlin passed away on September 15, 1985, Josephine continued to live in Fairchild, moving into the Fairchild Senior Living Apartments 3 years ago. Josephine was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild.
She will be dearly missed by her two sons, James( Sherri) Schmidt of Fairchild
Rick ( Jane) Schmidt of Augusta: 3 daughters, Gloria (Ronald) Watson of Rockford, IL, Susan (David) Olinger of Eau Claire, Lois (Greg) Laufenberg of Osseo,
19 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.
Josephine was also preceded in death by her grandson, James Schmidt on Sept. 8, 2010 and siblings, Lillie Zimmer, twin sister, Dorothy Koehler, John, Emil and Grant Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild, with Pastor Rick Bertels officiating. Burial will be in the Fairchild Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
