Walter Shambaugh
Walter W. Shambaugh, 87, of Stone Lake, WI, passed away Wed. April 4, 2012, at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital in Hayward. .  

Walter W. Shambaugh, son of Emanuel and May (Scott) Shambaugh was born Aug. 13, 1924 in Boyd, WI. He attended Grandview Country School in Wilson Township, Eau Claire County. As a teen he worked on the Rex McCauley farm before moving to Rockford, Illinois, where he worked on the Walsh Brother’s Farm. From 1942 until his retirement in 1979, he worked at the National Lock Company in Rockford. He was united in marriage to Sheila Walker on April 26, 1975, and the couple made their home in Beloit. In 1991, Walter and Sheila moved to Stone Lake and also had a cabin nearby on Big Sand Lake. Walter loved the outdoors where he could spend time fishing and hunting. He enjoyed hunting in Wisconsin, and took many hunting trips to the Dakotas and further west. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada and in the Hayward area. While in Beloit he was a part owner of the Thunder Rock Trap and Skeet Range. He was a long time member of the Beloit Rifle Club, shooting skeet and trap locally and traveling throughout Wisconsin and Illinois to registered shooting events. He enjoyed the challenge of rebuilding and repairing guns and also reloading ammunition. Walter had been in failing health for the past 4 months and in January entered an assisted living facility in Hayward.  

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Sheila of Stone Lake; sister, Rosa Campbell of Darrington, Washington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel on May 6, 1958, mother, May on March 26, 1987, and step-sisters, Ruth and Lucille Macomber.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Ricky Bertels officiating. Burial will be in the Ludington Cemetery on Weggen Road, Ludington Township.. Friends may call 2 hours prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
