Florence F. Walker, 91, of the Augusta Area Nursing Home, passed away Monday afternoon, April 30, 2012 at the home with her loving family at her side.
Florence Fern Walker, daughter of Wallace and Elsie (Kelly) Kirkham was born March 9, 1921, in Bridge Creek Township, rural Augusta. As a child she attended Kirkham Valley Country School and graduated from Augusta High School in 1940. Before her marriage she worked at the Presto Ordnance Plant in Eau Claire, and as a telephone operator in Augusta. She was united in marriage to Marshall Walker on Sept. 12, 1945 at the E.U.B. Church in Augusta, with Pastor Marks officiating. Marshall and Florence farmed all their married life, staring on the Truman Solie farm, then to the Walker family farm before moving to rural Osseo where they farmed with Gordon and Margaret Walker. In 1953, they returned to the Walker family farm in Bridge Creek Township, rural Augusta. Florence and Marshall were members of the E.U.B. Church in Augusta and then with the Augusta United Methodist Church. Florence enjoyed being a farm wife, helping in the barn and driving tractor when doing field work. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Her family meant the world to her and she took great pleasure in baking and cooking for them. Attending dances with Marshall and many of the their friends was also one of her favorite pastimes.
Due to declining health, Florence entered the Augusta Area Nursing Home in April of 2005. Florence was very content to be at the nursing home and extremely well cared for. The staff and residents at thehome made Florence's stay very pleasant and for this the family is especially thankful.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Sandy (Ron) Shave of Stevens Point; 2 sons, Eric (Diane) Walker and Lynn (Bernie) Walker all of rural Augusta; 6 grandchildren, Peter (Nikki) Shave, Amber (John) Francis, Jon (Teresa) Walker, Aaron Walker, Heidi (Ed) Hughes, Wendy (Jeremy) Stary, 18 great grandchildren, Tory, Tanner, Mayzie and Tenley Walker, Nadine, Samatha and Shelby Rios, Steven, Rayanne and Benjamin Walker, Tucker and Maxwell Stary, Oliver, Connor, Alyssa and Emma Shave, Isabelle and Samantha Francis; sister, Doris Zank a resident of the Augusta Area Nursing Home; sister-in-law, Margaret Walker a resident of the Fall Creek Valley Care Center; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marshall Walker on Oct. 2, 2000, brothers, Ivan, John, Wilmer, Andrew and Cleve Kirkham and sister, Alyce Birtzer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Augusta, with burial in the Thompson Valley Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
